Quick Thoughts: Captain Marvel

Set aside for a moment any pre-conceived notions you have of gender roles in a super hero movie and watch Captain Marvel. The heady mix of action and comedy put forth by Thor: Ragnarok is continued here with callbacks to the early 90’s and a Nick Fury with both eyes. Combine that with the anticipation of seeing Carol Danvers learn about her past and the absolute disregard she has for it and you have a movie that is fun, entertaining, intense, and deep. This mix of comedy and serious story have become box office gold for Marvel, and it doesn’t look to be stopping any time soon.

Captain Marvel is interesting, the action scenes are well-done, special effects are on par with what we’ve come to expect, and characters all have enough back-story to be interesting without overwhelming each other. Even revelations from both the Kree and the Skrulls are excellent, and neatly add Earth into the Infinity Stones quest years before Tony Stark makes his first suit. Despite the plot hole this creates, the movie is still an entertaining introduction to one of the strongest characters in the MCU and well worth the time to watch it.
