Quick Thoughts: Avengers: Infinity War

Updated: Sep 18, 2019

Oh, the anticipation! Disney and Marvel spent years building up to the climax of it’s third phase of the MCU, and released half of it with Avengers: Infinity War. A culmination of everything seen so far, Infinity War brings together all the heroes we’ve seen so far to try and stop the Mad Titan Thanos from acquiring the Infinity Stones and eliminating half of life from the universe.

The story follows each and every one of the heroes we’ve come to know and at least tolerate; and at no point did the plot seem drawn-out or unnecessary. We move seamlessly from one group to the next without jarring cuts or idiotic transitions. Nothing in the movie seems random or unimportant. And the grand battle at the end brings things together so spectacularly that it’s worth watching that scene alone. Still, the ending is inevitable even as we sit and scream against it, filled with heartbreak and intensity unrivaled in previous Marvel movies.

It really does feel as though everything is building towards an intense climax, and the payoff hits viewers and characters alike right in the chest. Overall, Avengers: Infinity War builds us up only to knock us down.
